RIO DE JANEIRO – The FPSO Carioca has left the BrasFELS shipyard in Angra dos Reis and is heading to the Sépia field in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil.
According to Petrobras, production is scheduled to start in August 2021. The Sépia field is about 250 km (155 mi) offshore Rio de Janeiro. Water depth is about 2,200 m (7,218 ft).
The FPSO Carioca has a processing capacity of 180,000 b/d of oil and 6 MMcm/d of gas, with 240,000 b/d of water injection and a storage capacity of 1.4 MMbbl of crude oil. Petrobras has charted the MODEC-owned vessel to operate at the Sépia field for 21 years.
This will be the largest operating FPSO in Brazil in terms of complexity, Petrobras said. When it reaches peak production, it will also be the largest unit in terms of oil production.
Petrobras said it plans to invest $46.5 billion in oil and gas production in Brazil by 2025. Currently, the company has 21 FPSOs in operation in the presalt, which are responsible for 70% of its oil production. The FPSO Carioca is one of 13 new platforms that are expected to enter production in the presalt from 2021 to 2025.
