ST PETERSBURG, Russia – Gazprom Neft’s ‘Kapitan’ Arctic digital logistics control system delivered a RUB900,000 ($11,832) economic benefit in 2019-2020.
Unit costs per metric ton of Arctic oil exported were 12% lower compared with pre-deployment costs, the company claimed.
Benefits included optimized tanker operation costs, through selecting the most viable routes; improved fuel economy; reduced expenditure on icebreaker support; and optimized oil exports.
According to the company, Kapitan is the world’s first digital logistics control system to operate in harsh Arctic conditions.
The system consolidates data from all facilities throughout the Arctic logistics chain, including tankers, icebreakers, oil loading terminals, and floating oil-storage units.
It analyzes around 15,000 incoming data metrics, including data from support vessels and the tanker fleet, terminal floating storage units’ cargo tanks, weather conditions, forecast and actual ice conditions, and vessel movements.
The system re-calculates tanker-traffic scheduling and ex-terminal oil shipments every 15 minutes, selecting the best solution from more than 66.5 million options.
