HOUSTON – BHP has contracted McDermott International to provide pre-front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) services for a floating production unit (FPU) for the deepwater Trion field offshore Mexico.
The facility will be moored in a water depth of around 8,200 ft (2,500 m) at the field location, 19 mi (30 km) south of the US/Mexico median line and 112 mi (180 km) from the Mexican coastline.
The pre-FEED scope covers engineering related to the configuration, sizing and preliminary analysis of the FPU, including topsides, hull, risers and mooring.
Under a partnership for the pre-FEED, McDermott’s Houston office will lead engineering services, supported by the company’s Mexico City branch, while Houston Offshore Engineering and Wood will respectively manage engineering for the hull and topsides.
McDermott’s responsibilities cover project management, execution planning, and estimation services. The company’s Marine Operations will perform installation studies while its Mexico-based Altamira yard will provide technical support for fabrication and integration.
The Trion program is due to be completed during 3Q 2020.
Presently McDermott is delivering the subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines scope for BHP’s Ruby project offshore Trinidad and Tobago, along with transportation and installation, pre-commissioning of a jacket and topsides.
It is also engaged in FEED for an FPU for the Scarborough gas field development off Western Australia, where BHP is a partner with Woodside.
