STOCKHOLM, Sweden – MODEC has awarded Trelleborg’s offshore operation a fasttrack contract to produce more than 80 laminated elastomeric bearings.

The bearings will be installed on the FPSO for Eni’s Area 1 oil field development offshore Mexico.

The first delivery was last month.

Elastomeric bearings are produced with steel plates encased within rubber and installed between the hull and the vessel’s modules. They are used to accommodate axial, shear, and rotational movement.

MODEC will own the FPSO and provide the operations and maintenance services to Eni Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. for an initial 15-year period with five one-year extension options.

The FPSO will be capable of processing 90,000 b/d of crude oil, 75 MMcf/d of gas, 120,000 b/d of water injection, and have a storage capacity of 700,000 bbl of crude oil.

First oil is planned for 2021.

According to Vincent Tan, sales and marketing manager at Trelleborg’s offshore facility in Singapore, the company has supplied elastomeric bearings for MODEC’s last five FPSOs.
