Stored Strohm TCP jumpers installed offshore Sabah

McDermott installed the thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) jumper technology offshore Malaysia.

Strohm has overseen the installation of the second deployment offshore Malaysia of its thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) jumper technology offshore Malaysia.

McDermott performed the installation at the Deepwater Sabah project. Previously Petronas had ordered a TCP flowline and static riser for the shallow water West Lutong field development in 2017.

For the latest project, the two 150-m long TCP jumpers had actually been delivered in 2021. Both had been stored until associated infrastructure at the field was ready to be installed.

The jumpers were spooled onto subsea pallets for installation from the transport reel, with ancillaries fitted by the Strohm field services team. Despite the long period in storage there were no residual bends in the jumpers as the pipe does not have a strong memory effect.

Nor does spooling from a vertical drum to horizontal pallet induce notable torsional effects, Strohm added, supporting first time right installation.
