PARIS -- Norske Shell has awarded Nexans a €4.8 million ($6.98 million) contract to supply a 6.5-km (4-mi) infield umbilical. This will be deployed on the Ormen Lange North field project in the Norwegian Sea.
Under this program, Norske Shell plans to install a fourth subsea production template (template C) around 6 km (3.7 mi) north of Ormen Lange’s main production area, serviced by the A, B, and D templates.
The Nexans umbilical will be used to connect template C back to template B, supplying hydraulic fluid, electrical power, and fiber optic signals to operate the subsea production systems in a water depth of around 850 m (2,789 ft).
Nexans will manufacture the umbilical at its plant in Halden, Norway, with delivery scheduled for the first half of 2012.
In 2004, Nexans also won the contract to supply the two 125-km (77.7-mi) main umbilicals and infield umbilical currently in service on Ormen Lange.
