ABERDEEN, UK –Kongsberg Maritime is highlighting its new Seaglider AUV at Offshore Europe.
This new AUV can deploy for durations exceeding nine months, says Kongsberg. The technology on exclusive license from the University of Washington changes the buoyancy for thrust and has a hydrodynamic shape. Those combine for a low-energy requirement that results in the longer mission length.
Kongsberg says it plans to be in full production of the AUV before year-end, and it is discussing new orders and delivery options now.
“Our decision to become the sole commercial developer of Seaglider ensures that this technology will remain accessible to its existing academic and research sector, but also in the future, will be more available for commercial operators in the offshore market,” says Rich Patterson, general manager, underwater glider systems, Kongsberg Underwater Technology Inc.
