STAVANGER, Norway — Neptune Energy has increased the prospect of further subsea tiebacks to the Gjøa Field platform in the Norwegian North Sea following two successful exploration wells, both drilled by the Deepsea Yantai semisub.
The rig drilled and completed the Ofelia appraisal well, 35/6-4 ST2, in the Agat Formation in PL 929, with results confirming recoverable volumes in the range 16 MMboe to 33 MMboe.
A subsequent sidetrack, 35/6-4 A, was drilled into the overlying Kyrre prospect, and it discovered gas with recoverable resources estimated at 11 MMboe to 19 MMboe. Current analysis suggests a combined recoverable volume from both discoveries of 27 MMboe to 52 MMboe.
Odin Estensen, Neptune’s managing director for Norway and the UK, said the finds open the way to a potential fast-track, low-cost development.
Agat/Kyrre are 23 km north of the Gjøa semisubmersible platform. Neptune also will consider a joint development with the 8 MMboe to 24 MMboe oil and gas discovery Gjøa Nord (Hamlet).
Steinar Meland, director of Exploration & Development in Norway, added, “The reservoir quality in the Kyrre discovery is very good, which allows for high production rates. We are preparing for several other exciting exploration opportunities in the area, such as the Cerisa well early next year.”
Other partners in the license are Wintershall Dea, Pandion Energy, Aker BP and DNO.
