RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Solstad’s offshore construction vessel Normand Cutter has arrived in Brazil, and will conduct decommissioning of subsea structures for Petrobras in two offshore basins under Ocyan’s management.
According to André Luiz Magalhães, Ocyan's executive manager for subsea construction, this is the first decommissioning contract for offshore production fields in Brazil, and it also marks Ocyan’s return to subsea construction services.
Normand Cutter has a crane-lift capacity of 300 t, a flex-lay system of up to 100 t and storage onboard for up to 1,250 t of pipes. Ocyan will deploy a 23-strong team onboard the vessel.
The vessel will first retrieve equipment from the Campos Basin and then unload the structures at Vitória in Espírito Santo. Next, it will deploy rollers and reels for the storage of flexible pipes.
In February, Normand Cutter will start collecting structures from the FPSOs Cidade do Rio de Janeiro and Cidade de Rio das Ostras before starting work in the Sergipe Alagoas Basin, around the FPSO Piranema. All material will be treated and sent for recycling.
Offshore services will last about 18 months.
“For Ocyan, the presence of the Normand Cutter in its fleet is a strategic point and will provide a window of opportunity for new subsea construction contracts,” said Rafael Guigon, Ocyan's director for subsea construction contracts. “From now on, we can search for other projects that require this kind of asset as a work tool for activities performed in this area. This vessel will allow the execution of simultaneous projects.”
