BERGEN, Norway  Hydramec and Scantrol have jointly supplied a customized active heave compensated (AHC) launch and recovery system (LARS) to well construction/intervention specialist AKOFS Offshore.

This is the first time Hydramec and Scantrol have worked together with AKOFS, which will use the system for deployment of a new subsea basket designed by INNOVA in Norway.

The LARS will launch the basket to make electrical connections in up to 3,000 m water depth to power subsea tooling.

According to Scantrol, the basket’s landing area is equipped with protective cow catchers to ensure the basket does not damage subsea equipment. Guiding hydraulic gates have been fitted on the front of the system to help position the basket.

Other features of the LARS include radio remote control and an operator's panel and touch screen, which will be installed in the client's control room.

Scantrol supplied the AHC controller, mTrack, for the basket LARS, said to allow the operator to safely control the basket without having to attend to vessel motion.

This is the 15th Mtrack AHC controller that Hydramec has integrated into a new LARS system.
