Boskalis will use the multi-functional pre-lay plough to install 380 km (236 mi) of export cables which will ultimately connect Hornsea Two’s offshore substation to the site’s onshore substation in Killingholme, Lincolnshire.
The 1.4-GW Hornsea Two offshore wind farm is expected to power more than 1.3 million homes in the UK. It is expected to be completed in 2022.
The pre-lay plough, named Megalodon by Boskalis, features active steering, multi modes, specialized share design and remote-control access.
The Megalodon can operate in water depths up to 500 m (1,640 ft) and will be used in collaboration with Boskalis’ offshore support vessel BOKA Falcon. Offshore works are expected to start this month.
