SANDNES, Norway — Horisont Energi and Neptune Energy have signed an agreement to develop the Errai Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in Norway.
This builds on the memorandum of understanding they announced at the end of August. They are now establishing an organization to take the project forwards.
In the first development phase, Errai will store 4-8 MM metric tons per year of CO2, potentially rising in later phases. The development will include an onshore terminal for intermediate CO2 storage (Norway’s second such facility), with a plan to permanently store the CO2 in an offshore reservoir.
Various locations in southern Norway are under review for the terminal, which will be capable of receiving CO2 from domestic and European sources, including from the planned CO2 terminal at the Port of Rotterdam.
CO2 injections should start by 2026. This will be Horisont Energi’s second development following Barents Blue.
Neptune Energy has reinjected CO2 in the K12-B gas field in the Dutch North Sea for 14 years and is a partner to Equinor in the Snøhvit Field, which has been reinjecting CO2 beneath the Barents Sea since 2008.
