STAVANGER, Norway— Equinor and Centrica have struck a deal on the delivery of additional gas supplies from Norway to the U.K.
The new supply agreement adds about 1 Bcm/year to Equinor’s existing contract with Centrica, lifting the total volume to be provided above 10 Bcm annually.
Britain imports about one-third of its gas needs from Norway, Equinor added.
“In a period with a challenging geopolitical and macroeconomic environment with strong demand for natural gas, we at Equinor are doing what we can to export as much gas as possible to the market,” said Helge Haugane, the company’s senior vice president, Gas & Power.
Typically, the company sends a total of 20 Bcm/year to 22 Bcm/year of natural gas to the U.K., which it says covers more than 25 % of U.K. gas demand.
