SINGAPORE – Calm Oceans says owner Brian Chang has started developing two heavy-lift semisubmersibles suitable for construction and decommissioning of offshore platforms.
Each vessel will feature two onboard cranes, with a lift capacity of 7,500 metric tons (8,267 tons).
Construction is expected to take 30 months.
Chang was the founder and owner of Yantai Raffles Shipyard prior to its sale four years ago to CIMC of China.
Through Calm Oceans, he also pioneered the patented MCP (mono column platform) self-installing and self-removable offshore oil and gas platform.
One, suited for operations in 500 ft (152 m) of water, is under construction at Blue Island Shipyard in China.
