Philly Shipyard to build subsea rock installation vessel

PHILADELPHIA – Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. LLC has commissioned Philly Shipyard Inc. to construct a Jones Act-compliant subsea rock installation vessel.
Great Lakes retains a right of first refusal on a second ship. The initial award is valued at about $197 million.
The basic design is by Ulstein. The vessel is designed to carry up to 20,000 metric tons of rocks. The ship is expected to have an overall length of 140.5 m (461 ft), a breadth of 34.1 m (112 ft), and crew accommodations for 45 people.
The owner will supply the rock placement system and other mission equipment. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in 4Q 2024. If awarded, the second vessel is expected to be delivered in 4Q 2025.
