ABERDEEN, UK – Maritime Developments Ltd. (MDL) has overhauled various items of lifting equipment on a North Sea FPSO, now in its 20th year in operation.
The program involved reinstating a 25-metric ton (27.6-ton) riser pull-in winch and three 200-metric ton (220-ton) anchor chain winches, to support extension of the vessel’s life by a further 10 years
Initially MDL’s Project and Engineering team conducted a survey of the on-board lifting equipment to assess its condition and to plan five-year maintenance and testing, following a period of no operation.
The on-board overhaul included a full winch strip down, service, re-assembly and load testing. In addition, technicians performed in-situ winch wire re-spooling, carried under tension.
Finally, MDL serviced and re-certified a dual-pump ATEX-rated HPU (Zone 1) to DNV GL requirements.
