RIO DE JANEIROMODEC has informed Petrobras that an FPSO on the Espadarte field, 130 km (81 mi) offshore in the Campos basin, has cracks in its hull.

An inspection of the Cidade do Rio de Janeiro’s external tanks revealed the existence of the cracks, which resulted in a leak of around 1.2 cu m (42 cu ft) of residual oil.

The vessel, which MODEC owns, had been out of operation since 2018, and is currently departing the field location.

Removal of the 54 personnel onboard was yesterday.

An overflight in the area did not identify oil slick on the sea surface. However, after further evaluation, MODEC’s team identified an increase in crack length.

Petrobras has reported this to the Brazilian authorities and has been supporting the contractor in contingency actions.
