DNV has issued approval in principle (AiP) for the pre-FEED design of Hanwha Ocean’s WindHive 15-H3 floating offshore wind turbine platform.
This features 15-MW turbines supported on three hexagonal columns.
In 2023, Hanwha Ocean introduced the concept and applied for trademark rights with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
WindHive 15-H3 is designed to accommodate 15-MW turbines with a rotor diameter of 240 m. The design is said to optimize the platform’s structural stability and weight through addressing turbine load distribution, while the hexagonal configuration is said to simplify column interconnections.
The company has secured contracts for four wind turbine installation vessels.
