Delmar to moor North Sea Culzean floating wind turbine pilot
Archer Wind has appointed Delmar Systems to deliver the mooring facilities for TotalEnergies’ Culzean floating wind pilot in the UK central North Sea.
This will feature a 3-MW floating wind turbine stationed 2 km west of the three-platform Culzean production complex. It should be fully operational by the end of next year.
Delmar will supply the mooring systems for the floating wind turbine, connecting the modular, light semisubmersible floater hull designed by Ocergy to the seafloor.
The design, the company said, allows for fast-track assembly and cost optimization.
Archer Wind is collaborating with TotalEnergies to progress detailed engineering, fabrication and assembly.
The pilot project, selected in Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil & Gas (INTOG) leasing round, will demonstrate the viability of hybrid power generation on offshore facilities, while also testing the floater design for future floating offshore wind projects.
