The overall project remains on track for full completion by the end of 2024, said project partner Skyborn Renewables.
Aside from the 80 foundations, 68 wind turbine generators have so far been installed, including 52 already feeding electricity to Taiwan. In addition, 56 of the 69 inner array grids and all 12 export cables are also in place.
Yunlin OWF is said to be the first offshore wind project to voluntarily exceed stipulated local commitments. For the 40 monopiles and 40 transition pieces, the project team has partnered with local manufacturers Formosa Heavy Industries and CTCI Machinery.
The project team has also optimized the production process, Skyborn said, reducing the manufacturing time for transition pieces to just five days. And Yunlin OWF was also the first project to commit to long-term charters of locally built crew transfer vessels.
Yunneng’s four-year "Black-faced Spoonbill Tracking Program" has deployed GPS technology to deliver insights into the habitat and migration patterns of the endangered bird species. It has so far identified 10 new activity hotspots and recorded more than 100 flight paths.

Yunlin OWF is in the Taiwan Strait, 8-17 km offshore the west coast of Taiwan, in water depths from 7-35 m. Electricity from 80 wind turbine generators will enter the Taiwanese power grid via two onshore substations near Taixi and Sihu in Yunlin County.
The purchaser is Taiwan Power Co. under two 20-year agreements. Once completed, the 640-MW Yunlin OWF will be Taiwan's second-largest offshore wind farm.
Other partners in the project are TotalEnergies, Thai power producer Electricity Generating Public Co., and Sojitz.
