Xodus has prepared a report on how the UK could work with New Zealand to develop the latter’s offshore wind industry.
The country, which has 15,000 km of coastline, could potentially host one of the world’s optimum wind resources, supported by New Zealand’s in-place regulatory framework.
Britain is the world’s second most developed offshore wind sector, with 13.9 GW commissioned by the end of last year, potentially more than tripling by 2030. Its financing methods, price stability mechanisms, local and international supply chain development and regulatory alignment could provide a model for New Zealand, the report claims, supported by the export of the UK supply chain’s expertise and capabilities.
