BlueFloat Energy has selected the site location of its “Winds of September Phase 1” floating offshore wind project, set to be the first in Taiwanese waters.

The company has also signed a collaboration agreement with the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre for “The Capacity Analysis of Taiwan Local Manufacturing Supply Chain for Floating Offshore Wind Mooring and Anchoring Systems” initiative.

Winds of September Phase 1, under development since 2021, will involve the installation of up to 12 floating platforms with an estimated capacity of 180 MW about 23 km offshore Hsinchu City.

The choice of location followed an energy yield assessment, informed by a floating lidar deployment campaign that began in March. Process and geophysical surveys have also been performed to assess environmental constraints and soil conditions.
