RWE Renewables has contracted CHC Helicopter to provide helicopter services.

RWE Renewables has contracted CHC Helicopter to provide helicopter services related to the Sofia offshore wind farm in the UK North Sea.

One hundred wind turbines will be installed at the location on Dogger Bank, 195 km from the coast of north-east England.

Sofia will be one of the first offshore wind developments to feature Siemens Gamesa’s 14-MW turbines. It should be completed in 2026.

This is also said to be the first time RWE has commissioned a helicopter service during the construction phase of an offshore wind project. CHC will operate an AW139 to provide crew changes at Sofia, with first flights starting from Norwich, eastern England in September.

At present CHC is providing crew transportation services for the construction of the Dogger Bank wind farm in the UK North Sea and for Ørsted's Hornsea 1 and 2.
