SBM Offshore and Ocean-Power have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a floating power generation hub with CO2 capture and storage.

SBM Offshore and Ocean-Power have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a floating power generation hub with CO2 capture and storage.

The partners aim to assess the technical feasibility and commercial readiness of applications on the continental shelves of Norway and the UK.

The development would apply Ocean-Power’s proprietary Blue Power Hub concept, which generates electricity offshore using gas turbines combined with carbon capture and storage to lower CO2 emissions.

According to SBM Offshore, the hub could send power to offshore infrastructure via submarine cables with minimal impact on the national grid, at the same time balancing wind power capacity in a bi-directional transmission structure.
