ABERDEEN, UKOEG Renewables (OEGR) and Sojitz Machinery Corp (SOMAC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on providing pre-construction, operations and maintenance (O&M), and vessel services to offshore wind projects in Japan.

The combination will draw on OEGR’s experience in offshore energy solutions with SOMAC’s in-country capabilities.

Japan seeks to install 10 GW of capacity by 2030 and up to 35-40 GW by 2040, including from floating offshore wind.

Recently, OEGR completed an O&M program on Ørsted’s Greater Changhua offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

SOMAC is a trading company focused on equipment, materials and machinery used in steelmaking, chemicals, electric power, marine, electronic devices and other industrial sectors.
