Study addresses floating offshore wind tower installation issues

Apollo, DOF and the UK’s ORE Catapult's Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence have issued results from a study of installation techniques for gigawatt-scale floating offshore wind farms.
ABERDEEN, UK — Apollo, DOF and the UK’s ORE Catapult's Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence have issued results from a study of installation techniques for gigawatt-scale floating offshore wind farms.
These developments would require about 60 floating offshore wind towers.
The project drew on experience from installations of demonstrator floating wind arrays, fixed wind cables, and floating oil and gas production facilities.
It examined various installation scopes, including towing of the towers, mooring and cable connections, addressing the complexities involved and the potential bottlenecks and risks.
