EDINBURGH, UK — Scotland’s government has approved a variation application concerning consents for the Pentland floating offshore wind farm development in northern Scotland.
It includes a reduction in the planned number of turbines, which will be spread across a smaller area, while maintaining the proposed 100-MW capacity. The project will have an operational lifespan of up to 25 years.
Copenhagen Offshore Partners is developing Pentland on behalf of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners for installation 7.5 km from the coast of Dounreay, Caithness.
The variation application followed further survey work and advances in the project design.
Richard Copeland, project director, said, “The Pentland project will pioneer a number of innovative technologies enabling the industrialization of floating offshore wind … We now have all key development requirements in place and are ready to move forward.”
