LONDON — Venterra Group will assess metocean data collection requirements to support future offshore wind farm developments off the east coast of Canada.

Via the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC), the government oversees regional assessments of offshore wind off the coasts of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. Nova Scotia plans to offer seabed leases for up to 5 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.

Venterra will provide support for planning by compiling existing metocean data, identifying knowledge gaps and making recommendations concerning data collection methodologies. Challenges of Atlantic Canada's marine environment include freezing spray, sea ice and harsh weather conditions.

The company’s teams will assess regions with nearer-term development potential, while also working on long-term data needs across the Atlantic regions.

Insights will be available to support field measurement campaigns, advanced numerical modeling and R&D.
