LONDON — Equinor and partner Masdar have appointed Global Maritime to support maintenance of the Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind farm in the North Sea.

The 30-MW development, comprising five Siemens Gamesa 6-MW turbines located 25 km offshore Peterhead, started operations in 2017.

Equinor has identified a need for major maintenance on the turbines, which will be disconnected and towed to Wergeland port in Gulen, Norway, to undergo servicing in sheltered conditions.

Operations are due to start in the next few months, with all five turbines restored to full operation by the end of the summer.

Global Maritime’s scope covers project management, engineering and assistance in the delivery of offshore operations for the preparatory works, inter-array cable and mooring disconnection and lay down, towing to Wergeland, assembly site coordination, and finally, return to site for hookup.
