NORWICH, UKSiemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has awarded UTEC a three-year contract to provide subsea balance of plant operations and maintenance services to the Butendiek wind farm in the German sector of the North Sea.

UTEC will manage the program with support from other Acteon subsidiaries Clarus, Deepwater and Seatronics. Buendiek is 32 km west of the island of Sylt.

The work scope covers annual subsea foundation ROV inspections, array cable and foundation seabed surveys, and corrosion-protection surveys of the wind turbine generators and the offshore substation.

UTEC will conduct a multi-beam echosounder seabed survey of the array cables and protection around the offshore structures, with Deepwater’s Polatrak Drop Cell – DC II equipment deployed for the corrosion protection survey.

The wind farm, owned by OWP Butendiek and operational since 2015, comprises 80 Siemens Gamesa SWT-3.6-120 wind turbines with a total capacity of 288 MW.

Previously Acteon worked with Siemens Gamesa to perform subsea surveys and inspections for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind pilot project.
