MILAN, Italy — The environmental impact assessment (EIA) process is underway for the Odra Energia floating offshore wind development offshore Lecce province, southern Italy.

This is a joint venture between Renantis and BlueFloat Energy. Following a year-long study and research phase, the partners have submitted their EIA study to Italy’s Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and Ministry of Culture.

The authorization process started for the project in 2021, and it has involved discussions with local authorities, associations, and other local, regional and national parties.

It has led to several adjustments, including a 30% increase in the distance of the wind farm location from the coast and a reduced number of turbines in the first rows.

Odra Energia will comprise 90 floating wind turbines with a maximum installed capacity of about 1,300 MW, producing 4 TWh/year.  Estimated cost of construction and development is more than EUR4 billion ($4.35 billion).
