STOCKHOLM, Sweden – TotalEnergies is joining CorPower Ocean’s Pilot Access Program to evaluate the Wave Energy Converter (WEC) technology as one of its solutions for decarbonization.
The Pilot Access Program is expected to provide TotalEnergies with insights into CorPower Ocean’s WEC technology and its operation through the HiWave-5 pilot at the Aguçadoura site in northern Portugal.
During the pilot program, operational data will be collected on the first full scale C4 WEC device in Stage 4, followed by a CorPack wave cluster demonstration in Stage 5 with three additional C5 WEC devices. A CorPack cluster is designed to provide a turnkey solution to generate electricity from ocean waves, including Wave Energy Converters, moorings, anchoring systems, intra-cluster cabling and an electrical collection hub for power export.
Participating in the CorPower pilot is expected to provide TotalEnergies with access to data, results, and operations from the extended test program taking place in northern Portugal.
By following this deployment, TotalEnergies aims to confirm the progression of the technology maturity, instilling confidence in the system reliability and to de-risk the technology and associated operations. This collaboration is poised to improve confidence in cost projections, leading to increased accuracy in the techno-economic assessments.
Furthermore, TotalEnergies says that it will also be able to provide valuable insights to test plans, drawing upon extensive expertise in offshore installation, maintenance and operations.
