Global OTEC and 2H Offshore have agreed to form a partnership covering the former’s ocean thermal energy conversion technology with the latter’s marine engineering capabilities.
Global OTEC has designed a commercial-scale system to meet small islands’ need for affordable renewable energy by using Ocean Energy Thermal Conversion (OTEC) – to convert the solar heat energy stored in the ocean into power. Global OTEC aims to have its first barge-based OTEC system, named Dominique (pictured), operational by year-end 2025 offshore São Tomé and Príncipe.
They have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to focus on the development of floating OTEC, with an emphasis on water intake riser systems to enable offshore operations.
They aim to make OTEC developments commercially viable, especially for use by small island developing states.
Global OTEC aims to have its first barge-based OTEC system, named Dominique, operational by year-end 2025 offshore São Tomé and Príncipe, and it will be capable of generating 1.5 MW through harnessing the ocean waters using various OTEC modules.
