OSLO, Norway — DNV has completed Phase 1 of the Emission Reduction (EMRED) Joint Industry Project (JIP), which is devising a monitoring and reporting framework to quantitatively assess greenhouse emissions from the offshore wind sector.
The 14 partners in the JIP are RWE, Vattenfall, Ørsted, Scottish Power Renewables, DEME, Cadeler, Jan De Nul Group, Ziton, Van Oord, Heerema, GustoMSC, Maersk Supply Service, Atheloen and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.
Under Phase 1, they agreed on a framework for foundation installation, wind turbine installation and cable-laying vessels. EMRED aims to standardize decarbonization reporting and increase transparency within the industry, DNV added.
Phase 2, due to begin shortly, will expand the program to include interested companies involved with platform supply vessels, anchorhandling tug supply vessels, standby vessels, service operation vessels, crew service operation vessels, and subsea support vessels.
Arnstein Eknes, DNV’s segment director for Special Ships, said, “We, as an industry, need deeper insight of operational modes and where measures will have the highest impact for a field developer or field operator. The inclusion of these diverse vessel types will provide a broader representation of the offshore sector and contribute to standardizing data reporting.”
DNV also announced it has secured a three-year contract from ScottishPower Renewables to perform inspection services on the East Anglia Three project offshore the Suffolk coast in the UK southern North Sea.
Tasks will include site and vendor inspections and quality management across multiple project/vendor locations globally until 2026, when the project is due to come onstream.
