EDINBURH, UK — The West of Orkney Windfarm co-venturers have submitted a planning application to The Highland Council for the projects’ onshore works.
This includes details of the proposed cable landfalls on the north Caithness coast in northern Scotland, the planned substation at or close to Spittal in Caithness, and the 20-km underground cables that will connect to the substation.
Last year, the co-venturers secured development rights to an area of seabed from Crown Estate Scotland under the ScotWind leasing process. The offshore wind farm would be built 30 km west of Orkney mainland and 25 km north of the Sutherland coast.
It will feature up to 125 turbines on fixed foundations with an overall capacity of about 2 GW, with first power targeted for 2029.
