FALMOUTH, UK — Tugdock has signed a memorandum of understanding with Salamander floating offshore wind farm to collaborate on innovation for floating offshore wind energy in Scotland.
Salamander Offshore Wind is a joint venture between Simply Blue Group, Ørsted and Subsea7 that is developing a 100-MW floating offshore wind farm project awarded earlier this year under Crown Estate Scotland’s INTOG lease round.
It will be located 35 km from Peterhead on Scotland’s east coast.
Tugdock, based in southwest England, has developed the Tugdock Submersible Platform and Tugdock Buoyancy Modules, both modular, road-transportable and, according to the company, easy to erect.
The Tugdock Buoyancy Modules provide additional buoyancy for draft reduction and stability for wind turbine generator integration in ports. The buoyancy modules are temporary works equipment that are fixed to the floaters and used during berthing, integration and marshalling, and removed prior to tow-out offshore.
According to the company, the technology enables floating offshore wind turbine substructures to be built or assembled and integrated in ports with water depth or space restrictions. It is also lighter, shallow drafted, quicker and more cost-effective than using a steel-hulled barge or floating dock, Tugdock claims.
Salamander Offshore Wind and the company have discussed collaboration in research and innovation related to the development of technologies and a supply chain for floating wind energy in Scotland.
In recent months, Tugdock has also formed partnerships with Sarens, a crane rental and heavy-lifting specialist, and with Crowley exploring floating offshore wind in regions, such as the US West Coast.
