BRONDBY, Denmark — NKT will supply the export power cable system for the Baltic Power wind development, which is 23 km offshore Poland.
The 76 wind turbines will generate up to 1.2 GW of electricity. NKT will execute the project in a consortium with two partners.
In addition, the company has signed a long-term contract with Polish copper producer KGHM concerning the supply of copper rod from 2023-2027.
Copper is essential to the growing numbers of power cables needed for new offshore and onshore windfarms and the expansion of electrical grids.
KGHM will supply the company with a minimum of 52,500 t per year of copper wire up to 2027, with an option to expand quantities and extend the contractual period.
The company operates its own mineral resources, mines, smelters and copper rod production facilities. Its Głogów and Legnica Copper smelters/refineries and Cedynia wire rod factory are all Copper Mark certified, NKT said.
