COPENHAGEN, Denmark  The European Commission has requested Floating Power Plant (FPP) to negotiate a grant by the European Commission to support its Seaworthy development at the Plocan test site offshore Las Palmas in the Canary Islands.

This is a floating offshore platform that combines wave and wind energy to generate electricity and uses excess power to produce and store hydrogen.

All these capabilities will be tested at the Plocan site.

FPP claims that as its combination of technologies matures, it will be able to deliver large-scale, cost-effective green hydrogen for export product. It is seeking to advance Seaworthy from Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL6) to TRL8 via the construction, testing and operation of a commercial-scale demonstration platform.

This will likely contain a 4.3-MW wind turbine, 0.8-MW wave energy converters, and electrolyzers with hydrogen storage and a fuel cell. The grant can help speed up deployment of the technology, the company added.
