CORK, Ireland  Simply Blue Group, Subsea7 and Spark Renewables aim to jointly develop the Sea Fern floating offshore wind project in the newly declared Pacific Ocean offshore Hunter wind zone in New South Wales, Australia.

This will generate up to 2 GW of power.

Sea Fern is named after the native flora of the Hunter coast.

The proposed project is at the initial phase of applying for a feasibility license under the 2021 Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Act. Assuming this is granted, the project team will then consult and collaborate with the local community, businesses, industry and with local contractors to establish a stakeholder engagement framework.

During the seven-year feasibility license period, the project team would conduct all required technical, environmental and social impact studies, approvals and consultations. They would then need development approval by 2030 to start construction, with the expected operations continuing through to the 2060s or beyond.

Simply Blue Group and Subsea7 have cooperated since 2019 to develop the Salamander floating offshore wind farm project in Scotland.

Spark Renewables is an Australian developer and owner of renewable energy facilities, with a portfolio spanning solar, wind and battery storage projects.
