NANTES, France – Lhyfe and ABB will collaborate on a new renewable hydrogen development to be located close to Skyborns’ 1-GW wind farm Storgrundet offshore Söderhamn, Sweden.
The two companies recently formed a sales purchase agreement with Stora Enso for an industrial area of about 40 ha. Once fully operational, the SoutH2port development should produce about 240 t/d of hydrogen, with an installed capacity of 600 MW.
Under a memorandum of understanding, ABB will work on optimizing integration of hydrogen and electricity production including the automation, electrical and digital technologies.
The shared goal is to assess opportunities for connecting the company’s Power-to-X conversion technologies to turn renewables-sourced electricity into carbon-neutral energy carriers, such as hydrogen, and to store the energy for later use.
In March, Centrica and Lhyfe also entered a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop offshore renewable green hydrogen in the UK. This could involve collaboration on a pilot site in the southern North Sea, combining Lhyfe’s green hydrogen production technology with Centrica’s experience of offshore gas storage and related infrastructure to demonstrate safe storage, along with production and distribution.
