SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands—RWE has contracted HSM Offshore Energy an EPCIC contract for a 1-GW HV substation and jacket foundation for the Thor wind farm in the Danish North Sea.
HSM Offshore Energy’s subcontractors Iv-Offshore & Energy and GE Renewable Energy will respectively work on the engineering and the MV/HV package. The substation will feature a topside of just under 3,000 metric tons and a 2,500-mt jacket structure.
According to HSM, its design for the substation and jacket reduces the volume of structural steel and the energy needed during manufacturing, with steel sourcing and fabrication in Europe.
Thor will reportedly be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date.
