ABERDEEN, UK — The consenting process has started for the planned MarramWind wind farm 75 km from the Aberdeenshire coast in the UK central North Sea.
MarramWind, a joint venture between ScottishPower and Shell, will comprise about 200 floating wind turbines generating up to 3 GW.
It was one of the successful proposals in the recent ScotWind auction process organized by Crown Estate Scotland.
The marine consultancy and survey specialist will perform a benthic characterization study for the environmental impact assessment (EIA), based on analysis of geophysical data acquired for the project. This should improve baseline understanding of the site and provide a basis for the assessment of potential impacts to benthic habitats.
ABPMer marine physical processes specialists will complete the geology, oceanography and physical process components of the EIA, as part of the consenting process.
The assessment will consider the marine impact from construction, operation and decommissioning of the facilities, using ABPmer’s SEASTATES validated hindcast metocean models. MarramWind could start operations by 2030.
