ABERDEEN, UK — Celtic Sea Power has awarded Apollo a pre-FEED contract for an offshore wind development offshore west Wales.
This covers the 400-MW Pembrokeshire Demonstration Zone Multi-connection Offshore Substation (PDZ MOS), 19 km from the Pembrokeshire coast, and two 1-GW MOSs for The Crown Estate Refined Area of Search (RAoS) A.
The PDZ MOS project will provide offshore renewable energy technology developers access to a consented test site with a grid connection to demonstrate their solutions. It is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund.
Another aim of the project is to attract further investment in the region for floating offshore wind.
The two 1-GW MOSs developed for the RAoS A will show what a coordinated grid connection could look like for future commercial developments in the Celtic Sea.
Apollo and Celtic Sea Power previously cooperated in the concept phase to help define the offshore design and onshore connections.
The Crown Estate bidding round concerning 4 GW of floating offshore wind opens in August with plans to make available a further 20 GW in future.
