EDINBURGH, UK  Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn have submitted a scoping report for their planned Cenos floating offshore wind farm in the UK central North Sea.

They claim this could be one of the world’s largest floating wind farms, with up to 1.4 GW of installed capacity, and could deliver first power in 2028 to the UK grid.

The scoping report details the nature and purpose of the project and its potential impact on the environment, and it represents the first step of the consenting process.

Cenos, located 200 km offshore, also could be connected to oil and gas platforms in the surrounding areas.

Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn also are collaborating on the proposed Green Volt floating offshore wind project. They have submitted leasing applications for Cenos and Green Volt as part of the Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round.

Awards should follow this spring.

Vårgrønn CEO Olav Hetland said, “Across Europe we are seeing a race to scale floating wind farms, and Cenos is ready to be a frontrunner in delivering commercial scale floating wind power.”
