Offshore staff
NORFOLK, Virginia — Fugro has signed a letter of intent to optimize and perform a site characterization program for an offshore wind development on the US East Coast.
The program is focused on accelerating the construction and operations permitting process and represents Fugro’s latest work on the US East Coast.
Fieldwork will begin in second-quarter 2023 and involves collection of geophysical and geotechnical datasets. Supporting site planning and engineering design, the developing ground model will be made available to project owners in near-real time to facilitate faster decision-making by project engineers and improved collaboration with stakeholders, including regulatory agencies.
This project was not yet included in the 12-months backlog as per September 2022 (Fugro’s latest published results).
New York updates
In November 2022, Community Offshore Wind awarded Fugro an offshore survey contract to support site appraisal and concept design activities in the New York Bight. Survey work began last year with the majority being executed in 2023, detailing geophysical and environmental conditions within the 510-sq-km lease area.
In late January, Equinor and bp jointly bid into New York’s third offshore wind solicitation. The bid would provide New York with renewable energy from the Beacon Wind 2 lease area located about 60 miles off the eastern tip of Long Island.
Last week Siemens Gamesa said it intends to build a major offshore nacelle manufacturing facility in New York, subject to the company’s wind turbines being selected by the New York authorities in their third offshore wind solicitation.
