CAPELLEN, Luxembourg — Jan De Nul Group has installed the first of two export cables for the connection of the Hollandse Kust West Alpha substation to the Dutch onshore grid.
HV technicians of partner LS Cables onboard Jan De Nul's cable-laying vessel Connector started the installation by jointing the offshore with the nearshore cable section, installed in the summer of 2022 by Isaac Newton and buried by the trencher Moonfish.
After completion of the jointing works, Connector started laying the remaining 62 km of cable in challenging winter conditions, the company said. Jan De Nul was recently able to successfully pull the cable onto the jacket of the offshore West Alpha platform.
Currently, Jan De Nul's subsea trencher UTV1200 is burying the cable into the seabed. This trencher is remotely operated from the company's multipurpose vessel Adhémar de Saint-Venant.
The cable-laying vessel Isaac Newton is sailing to the LSC Cables factory in South Korea to load the final 61-km-long section of the second Hollandse Kust West Alpha export cable for installation in April this year.
