DILLINGEN, Germany —Japan’s Akita Noshiro offshore wind farm, which recently started operations, features 26,300 t of heavy plate supplied by Dillinger for the monopile foundation structures.
Thicknesses range from 50 mm to 100 mm. The wind turbines are mounted on monopiles more than 78 m long and weighing about 880 t, in water depths of 10 m to 30 m.
This was the first large-scale offshore wind project in Japan, according to Dillinger. Two wind farms (Noshiro is the other) extend more than 730 ha in the coastal zone of Akita Prefecture, with 33 wind turbines and a combined annual capacity of 139 MW.
