Located in the Strait of Sicily, the Med Wind farm will comprise 190 floating turbines with an installed power of 2 GW and an annual estimated output of 9 TWh. It will be the first plant of this kind in the Mediterranean Sea.
The study covers the 190 floating foundations and moorings for the wind turbines and the conceptual design for the floating offshore substations.
The floating foundation design will be based on Technip Energies’ INO15 three-column semisubmersible floater, which is said to be suited to large series production.
Renexia, a subsidiary of Toto Group, completed the Taranto wind farm offshore Puglia, southeast Italy, this April.

A floating offshore wind farm consists of a system of turbines installed tens of kilometers from the coast, and the wind towers are not embedded but anchored to the seabed.
