LONDON — Vattenfall has awarded a contract to DEME Group and LS Cable & System to provide the export power cables for the 1.8-GW Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind farm in the southern UK North Sea.
This follows a similar agreement concerning cables for sister project, the Norfolk Boreas Wind Farm.
The consortium will provide about 180 km of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) export cables for the onshore route and 320 km for the offshore route for the entire Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone, also connecting it to the UK’s national transmission electricity grid.
Vattenfall said the design of the HVDC cables allow the size of the cable route to be reduced by a third.
