HOBOKEN, Belgium  The steel topside for the Hollandse Kust (north) offshore wind platform in the Dutch North Sea sailed from Antwerp last week on Sept. 28 to Ijmuiden, the Netherlands, Smulders reported.

It was due to remain at the Leonarduskade until weather conditions allowed DEME's Orion vessel to start the offshore installation.

After completing an assignment in UK waters, the vessel will sail to the coast of North Holland to install the 3,500-metric ton, 25-m tall topside 18.5 km from the coast of Egmond aan Zee on the jacket, which was anchored to the seabed last November.

First steel cut was cut by the EQUANS/Smulders consortium two years ago, and this is the first of the three topsides they are delivering for TenneT. After "north," "west Alpha" will follow in 2023 and "west Beta" in 2025. Each will have a capacity of 700 MW.

The undersea cables for "north" are in place on the seafloor, and the area behind the dunes near Heemskerk/Wijk aan Zee is being connected to the cables, which will supply power to the high-voltage substation along the A9 motorway in Beverwijk.

In the next few weeks, Jan de Nul Group will lay the subsea cables for "west Alpha."
